Dwarf Pea Pufferfish (Carinotetraodon travancoricus)

Dwarf Pea Pufferfish (Carinotetraodon travancoricus), also known as the pea puffer, Indian dwarf puffer, Malabar puffer, and pygmy puffer, is one of the smallest pufferfish species in the world. Native to the freshwater environments of the Western Ghats in Southwest India, these tiny fish grow to about one inch in length 

Care Requirements

• Tank Size: A single pea puffer can thrive in a 5-gallon tank, but if you want to keep more, it's recommended to provide 5 gallons for the first puffer and 3 gallons for each additional one .
• Water Parameters: They prefer clean, well-maintained water with a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C) and a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5
• Diet: Pea puffers are carnivorous and enjoy a diet of live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and snails.

Behavior and Temperament

• Territorial Nature: Pea puffers can be quite territorial, especially in smaller tanks. Providing plenty of hiding spots and plants can help reduce aggression.
• Unique Traits: They are known for their helicopter-like maneuverability and independently moving eyes. Occasionally, they may puff up as a defensive mechanism.

Conservation Status

• Vulnerable: The pea puffer is classified as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List due to overfishing and habitat loss. It's important to ensure you're purchasing from reputable sources to avoid contributing to their decline.
